Travelers can apply in advance via the official Department of Immigration e‑Visa portal within 15 days before arrival. Approval provides a barcode to speed up arrival procedures. The visa issued upon arrival is identical to the tourist visa-on-arrival.
Extensions can be obtained at the Department of Immigration in Kathmandu (all visa types) and branch offices in Pokhara, Birgunj, Kakarbhitta, etc. (tourist visas)
Maximum stay for tourist visas: 150 days per calendar year

Indian citizens: Visa‑free entry; no tourist visa required via treaty

Separate permits are required to enter restricted trekking regions (e.g., Upper Mustang, Manaslu, Dolpo). These are issued through trekking agencies only and additional fees applied.
