✅ 1. Visa on Arrival

• Availability: Available at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) and major land border checkpoints (e.g., Birgunj, Kakarbhitta, Nepalgunj, Kodari)

• Requirements: Passport valid for ≥6 months, completed online or kiosk application, printed receipt or form, passport-size photos (or digital photo taken on arrival)

• Fees:

  • 15 days: US $30

  • 30 days: US $50

  • 90 days: US $125

✅ 2. Pre‑Arrival Visa (e‑Visa / ETA)

• Travelers can apply in advance via the official Department of Immigration e‑Visa portal within 15 days before arrival. Approval provides a barcode to speed up arrival procedures. The visa issued upon arrival is identical to the tourist visa-on-arrival.

✅ 3. Visa Extensions

• Extensions can be obtained at the Department of Immigration in Kathmandu (all visa types) and branch offices in Pokhara, Birgunj, Kakarbhitta, etc. (tourist visas) 

• Maximum stay for tourist visas: 150 days per calendar year

• Extension Fees:

  • Minimum 15-day extension: US $45

  • Additional days: US $3/day

✅ 4. Gratis (Free) Visa

• Indian citizens: Visa‑free entry; no tourist visa required via treaty 

• SAARC nationals (Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, excluding Afghanistan): Gratis 30-day visa on first entry in a calendar year 

• Diplomatic/official passport holders: Exemptions depend on bilateral agreements.

✅ 5. Restricted Areas & Special Permits

• Separate permits are required to enter restricted trekking regions (e.g., Upper Mustang, Manaslu, Dolpo). These are issued through trekking agencies only and additional fees applied. 

✅ 6. Other Important Notes

• Currency: Visa fees in USD (cash) or Nepalese Rupees; credit cards sometimes accepted at TIA only

• Visa exemptions: Indian citizens don’t need visas; SAARC nationals get free 30‑day tourist visas once per year

• Electronic Visa: Online visa (ETA) option is available, but final issuance occurs at arrival. The online form is valid for 15 days before arrival
