This ultimate Everest adventure is for those who want it all — iconic peaks, offbeat trails, high mountain passes, and the legendary Everest Base Camp. The Three Passes Trek is one of the most complete and challenging circuits in the Everest region, offering jaw-dropping scenery, cultural immersion, and a true sense of achievement.
Our journey begins with a dramatic mountain flight to Lukla and follows the Dudh Koshi river valley up to the vibrant Sherpa town of Namche Bazaar, where the fusion of tradition and trekking spirit is palpable. From here, the real adventure unfolds.
We first cross the Renjo La Pass (5,360m), a less-traveled route with expansive views of Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and the turquoise lakes of Gokyo Valley. An optional hike to the 4th and 5th Gokyo Lakes or Gokyo Ri (5,330m) offers some of the best panoramic Himalayan vistas.
The journey continues over the icy Cho La Pass (5,420m), leading to the historic Everest Base Camp (5,364m) and the legendary viewpoint of Kala Patthar (5,550m), where Everest itself feels within arm’s reach.
Next, we tackle the highest and most remote of the three, the Kongma La Pass (5,535m), an awe-inspiring crossing with alpine grandeur at every turn. Descending through Dingboche, Tengboche, and peaceful Sherpa villages, we make our way back to Lukla with hearts full and memories for a lifetime.

We arrive in the vibrant city of Kathmandu and are warmly welcomed at the airport by a representative from Nona Getaways. After a smooth transfer to our hotel, we check in, unwind, and take in our first taste of Nepalese energy. In the evening, we gather for a special welcome dinner hosted by the Nona Getaways team — a perfect moment to connect, ask questions, and feel the excitement build for the journey ahead.

You will take an early morning ride to Manthali on a private jeep. then will take a mountain flight that brings us to the iconic airstrip at Lukla. As the plane dips between the hills and lands on a mountainside, we step into the real Himalayas. We start walking along the Dudh Koshi river, crossing suspension bridges and passing small Sherpa villages before reaching Phakding.

Today is a big day. We follow the river through pine forests, cross Hillary Suspension Bridge, and then begin the steep climb to Namche Bazaar — the vibrant Sherpa capital nestled into the hillside. Prayer flags flutter above us and yaks pass by carrying supplies. As we reach Namche, the energy of the mountains hits different.

We slow down to acclimatize but keep moving. A scenic hike to the hidden Khumjung Valley gives us our first real taste of Everest views and traditional Sherpa life. We visit the ancient monastery said to house a Yeti scalp, and return to Namche feeling stronger and more connected to the land.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

We leave the buzz of Namche and head west into a quieter valley. The trail to Thame is less traveled and deeply spiritual. This is the childhood village of Tenzing Norgay. We visit a centuries-old monastery perched on the hill — chanting, incense, and mountain silence surround us.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Climbing higher, we pass grazing yaks and remote stone houses as we make our way toward Murlung. The landscapes grow wilder and more dramatic. The trail carves along riverbanks and moraine fields — this is where adventure starts to feel real.

Today we conquer the first of the three passes — Renjo La. It’s challenging but absolutely breathtaking. From the top, the panorama opens wide: Gokyo Lakes shimmer below, Everest rises in the distance, and we feel on top of the world. We descend carefully into Gokyo village beside the turquoise lake.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

We rise early for a hike to Gokyo Ri. From the summit, the view is unmatched: Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu – four 8000ers standing tall in one sweep. It’s a soul-stirring moment we’ll never forget. We return to Gokyo for rest and stories by the lake.

We cross a rocky glacier moraine to reach Thagnak. The walk is surreal — quiet, frozen landscapes, crackling ice, and an otherworldly stillness. We rest early for tomorrow’s crossing.

Our second pass — Cho La — is steep, icy, and thrilling. Crampons may be needed. Once we reach the top, the sense of achievement is powerful. The descent is equally dramatic as we make our way down into Zungla.

We push higher now, walking into the heart of the Khumbu. As we approach Gorakshep, the landscape becomes moonscape-like. This is our launchpad for EBC and Kalapathar.

A pre-dawn climb takes us to Kalapathar (5,550m) for sunrise — the golden glow on Everest is indescribable. After breakfast in Gorakshep, we trek to Everest Base Camp — flags flutter, stones stacked, glaciers groan. Then we descend to Lobuche with our hearts full.

Our final pass is the highest and most isolated — Kongma La. It’s a long, challenging day, but deeply rewarding. Once we descend to Chhukung, the green valley and calm air feel like paradise.

We re-enter lush pine forests and ancient trails. Pangboche, home to the region’s oldest monastery, offers us peace and a slower pace again. The village feels like a reward after the passes.

Back on familiar paths, we descend to Namche with lighter packs and lighter hearts. Time for a proper shower, coffee, and a bakery visit. We’ve earned it.
